The Wood Mouse has sandy brown fur with an off white underside. It has large eyes, large ears and a long tail.
The success of the Wood Mouse is down to the fact that it has adapted to a wide range of habitats including urban gardens. In fact, if you see a mouse in your house, it is more likely to be a Wood Mouse than a House Mouse. In natural habitats, they usually live in underground burrows.
Wood Mice usually forage at night. They feed on seeds, green plants, fruits and some invertebrates including worms and centipedes.
They usually breed between March and October, having litters of 4-7 young, though litter sizes decrease during the autumn. If the foraging is particularly good in the winter, the mice may continue to breed until food becomes scarce.
