Summer migrants staying longer?

A study published last month by BTO ecologists compared data generated on summer migrant arrival and departure dates by your BirdTrack records and those of
and the
survey. It found that 11 of 14 common summer migrants arrived significantly earlier and departed later in autumn.
Interestingly, most of the spring migrants that advanced their arrival dates the most also had positive population trends. Birds such as Swallow and House Martin may be benefitting from a warmer climate which is allowing them to have an extended breeding season and succesfully raising an extra brood in late summer.
