Updates to EuroBirdPortal

18 Aug 2015 EuroBirdPortal

In our enewsletter from June 2015, we highlighted the launch of the EuroBirdPortal. New species have been added every week since then, and the migratory species in particular  show what can be achieved by combining Europe-wide datasets. A good example is House Martin; the demo viewer lets you watch how the species retreats from its European breeding grounds from September to late October, then reappears again in Portugal, Spain and Italy at the end of January and February. Just as fascinating are the patterns evident for winter visitors such as Redwing and Fieldfare, as well as irruptive species like the Waxwing. For the latter, the progression during the "Waxwing Winter" of 2012/13 is well worth a look!
