Stilts stride in

05 Sep 2014 Black-necked Grebe by Alex Berryman

Rare breeding birds are an important part of our avifauna and are monitored – with help from the network of County Bird Recorders – by the Rare Breeding Birds Panel (RBBP) in Britain and the Irish Rare Breeding Birds Panel in Ireland.

2014 has been a remarkable year for rare breeding birds in Britain, with Bee-eaters on the Isle of Wight and at least four pairs of Black-winged Stilts in southern and eastern England. The latest RBBP report, focussing on 2012, was published in the September 2014 edition of British Birds.

Please remember to include breeding evidence when you are adding records of rare breeding species to BirdTrack to maximise the information available to County Bird Recorders and ultimately, the relevant rare breeding birds panel.
