Recording rare breeding species

The Rare Breeding Birds Panel (RBBP) collates records of all species with fewer than 2,000 breeding pairs in the UK, in order to monitor the population of these species and provide a conservation resource. The Irish Rare Breeding Birds Panel (IRBBP) performs the same function in Ireland. BirdTrackers can help the work of the panels by entering full details on any rare breeding birds they encounter during the breeding season, including any breeding evidence observed in the relevant tab of the ‘optional details’ section. We encourage BirdTrackers to bear this in mind to maximise the conservation value of their records, and to add interest to their birding trips. More information about the RBBP, including tips on recording breeding activity through BirdTrack, can be found here [PDF download].
