Autumn migration: already underway!

Last week's update featured waders that were still on their northbound journeys. A week on and the first departing migrants have already been recorded! Whilst it will probably be a few more weeks before juvenile Cuckoos like the one pictured start appearing, at least one adult Cuckoo has already left! Interestingly the Cuckoo reporting rate fell from a peak of 22% in the third week of May to 12% last week, perhaps reflecting the fact that some males have already gone.
