Black Redstart

04 Nov 2011 Black Redstart by Mark Newsome

Although Black Redstarts are common in continental Europe, they are still very scarce breeders in Britain and Ireland. The wintering population is bolstered by small numbers that arrive from the Continent, and late October / early November is the peak time for sightings. Whilst recent records have been scattered from the Scillies to the Shetlands, the animated map shows that the south and east coasts of England have accounted for the lion's share.
