A Quail-year?

17 Jun 2011 Quail by Abbie Marland

The Quail reporting rate shows that 2011 is already proving exceptional for Quail in Britain and Ireland. Whilst records have peaked in July in the last 2 years (most Quail arrivals are linked to an onward wave of migration from more southerly breeding sites earlier the same year), this year there was a clear spike in reports in late May. It will be interesting to see if the high volume of 'early' records of Quail is reflected by an inflated reporting rate for the rest of the summer.
