Early migrants return

It is starting to feel like another harsh winter is finally behind us as migrants begin to flood back into the country. The reporting rates and maps for Wheatear, Sand Martin and Chiffchaff show an increase in records from the southern half of Britain, though all of these early-returning species are yet to reach Scotland and Ireland in any numbers. Staff at BTO and RSPB headquarters have seen the first returning waders for the BirdTrack Challenge, and Sand Martin has already been spotted at The Lodge.
