Skylark

Alauda arvensis

 

The last breeding Atlas showed that you can hear the distinctive song of the Skylark in almost every corner of Britain and Ireland. But how true is this today after a large decline in many farmland areas?

In winter the Skylark is a lowland species and you'll need to check those stubble fields to pick them up.
 

Note that the 2007-11 maps (below left) reflect only records submitted so far online . We will update these with records from paper forms at the end of each fieldwork season. Check back soon to see how the picture develops. And why not take part and help fill the gaps.
