Dunnock
Prunella modularis
Dunnocks can be surprisingly difficult to find in the winter. By late winter they are setting up territory and singing on warm sunny days. They are widespread throughout Britain and Ireland and can be found in a wide range of habitats. In the breeding season look out for adults carrying food to a nest to confirm breeding.
Note that the 2007-11 maps (below left) reflect records submitted online and some paper records. We will update these with records from paper forms at the end of each fieldwork season. Check back soon to see how the picture develops. And why not take part and help fill the gaps.
