Countryside Survey 2000
BTO volunteers completed visits to
around 330 Countryside
Survey 2000 squares during the spring of 2000. Countryside Survey
2000 is an Institute of Terrestrial Ecology survey of land use,
vegetation and freshwater plants and animals in a selection of 1-km
squares across Britain.
Most of these squares have now been surveyed 3 or 4 times since
the first Countryside Survey in 1978 building-up an impressive data-set
of the habitats within them. This year, for the first time, birds
have also been surveyed in these 1-km squares.
This exciting project was funded by the Department
of Environment Transport and the Regions.
