The BTO is involved in a range of research to determine how bird populations will be affected by climate change. The work includes investiations of relationships between range, abundance and climate, the potential effects of sea level rise on coastal bird populations and the demographic mechanisms through which climate will affect abundance. BTO research has also been important for demonstrating how spring weather is already bringing about earlier arrivals of migrants and earlier egg-laying in many species.

The following information is currently available on the BTO website:

The effect of climate change on birds
Climate change and egg-laying dates
Climate change and migratory species
