4.3 Immigration and emigration

 
The size of a population may vary if individuals move to or from neighbouring populations. However, movements of individuals between populations are thought to be of reduced importance when considering variation in population sizes at a national scale (Paradis et al., 1998; Baillie et al., 2000).
