Birds in View newsletter

Birds in View newsletterBirds in View is the newsletter of bird survey opportunities in Scotland.  Now in its third issue we want this edition to be a keepsake you can refer to when you want to find out about bird surveying opportunities in Scotland.

Download the latest issue here (pdf 1.5M).  If you would like to receive a copy either posted or emailed to you, please provide Robin Anderson ( or 01786 466560) with your full contact details.

In this issue you will read about all the main bird surveys in Scotland.  Dame Barbara Young, President of the BTO, encourages us in our first article to get out and “count, survey, atlas, tetrad, constant effort, Birdtrack or whatever is your bag.”  We go on to find out about the personal experiences of people involved with Birdtrack, BBS, the Bird Atlas 2007-2011, Garden Birdwatch, The Nest Record Scheme and Ringing. They give their reasons why it is important to get involved.

Our centre spread is designed to help you choose the right survey depending on your experience and the time you have available. Other articles focus on BBMS and the Scottish Local Recording Network; and Schedule 1 Species and Countryside Access.  Richard Paul, BTO Regional Representative for Perthshire goes on to tell us about his experience of Schiehallion and the Bird Atlas 2007-2011.

We are happy to provide additional printed copies of Birds in View for you to pass onto others, or to leave in a place where you think potential bird survey volunteers may see them.  Please help us to get as many people as possible involved.
