Press Releases - May/June 2007
Item 3

No. 2007/05/56
May 2007

Buy your dad time with the birds this Father’s Day.

Are you looking for a gift with a difference for the dad who has everything? Then look no further. The BTO/CJ Garden BirdWatch gift pack could be just the gift for you.

By giving your dad the Garden BirdWatch gift pack you will be giving him what every man wants; time with the birds. The Garden BirdWatch survey monitors the fortunes of our garden birds throughout the year. Garden BirdWatchers spend as little as one hour per week recording the birds that visit their gardens and make a huge difference to our understanding of garden birds.

The gift pack costs £12.00 and contains the Garden BirdWatch Book (normal price £9.99), which is full of information on the birds that your dad is likely to see in his garden, and help him identify any new visitors that he might get. The pack also contains all that is needed to get started, plus a copy of the most recent Bird Table magazine, which members receive quarterly, providing them with a wealth of information on the latest in garden birdwatching.

Paul Stancliffe, of the Garden BirdWatch team said, “This is a great gift to give, not only will your dad be able to take time to enjoy the birds in his garden, he will be contributing to our knowledge of them too. So go on, give your dad a gift with a difference this Father’s day, one that will last all year.”

Gift packs can be purchased by calling the Garden BirdWatch team on 01842-750050, or on-line at www.bto.org, or write to, Room 56, GBW, The Nunnery, Thetford, Norfolk, IP24 2PU.

The BTO/CJ Garden BirdWatch is the only nationwide survey of garden birds to run weekly throughout the year, providing important information on how birds use gardens, and how this use changes over time. Currently, some 16,500 people take part in the project. The BTO/CJ Garden BirdWatch is funded by participants’ contributions and supported by CJ WildBird Foods Ltd and is the largest year round survey of garden birds anywhere in the world. For more information see www.bto.org/gbw
  2. CJ WildBird Foods is Europe’s leading supplier of bird food and bird feeding products. The company has also been supporting research into the changing fortunes of garden bird populations, most notably through the BTO/CJ Garden BirdWatch.
  3. Bird Table Magazine is published quarterly and sent free to all BTO/CJ Garden BirdWatchers. An annual subscription to the project costs just £12 and all new joiners will receive a free copy of the BTO/CJ Garden BirdWatch Book (which normally retails for £9.99).
