WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?
As noted in the section
on interpretation, we have a lot of work to do to extract all the
information contained in the many thousands of submissions and one
of the questions we hope to address is whether birds in Northern
Britain get up at the same time (relative to the time of first light)
as those further south. We also want to look at the patterns of
arrival within gardens where particular species occur. For example,
do Coal Tits arrive earlier in gardens where larger, more dominant
tits also occur? Does the prescence of a Sparrowhawk alter the pattern
of arrival. It will take us a little while to answer all these questions
and to check through all the information we have received. It is
likely that we shall have to contact some of the participants to
ask for additional information (e.g. to find out the names of the
species recorded under 'other species') or to follow up on comments
made in emails.
Throughout this process
we will keep you informed about our progress by using the email
address you supplied when entering your observations. If you did
not take part in the survey but would like to be kept up to date
on our progress, then get in touch with us and we will add you details
to a list of interested people.
Finally, if you have
enjoyed taking part in this survey, why not consider getting involved
in other BTO Surveys. You might be interested in our BTO/CJ
Garden BirdWatch Survey which looks at how birds use gardens
and how this use changes through the year, or you may like to help
with BirdTrack by keeping simple
lists of the birds that you see in your garden or while out birdwatching.
Alternatively, you might fancy helping with one of our
other schemes. To find out more, simply click on the hyperlinks
in this paragraph.
Thank you for all your
help, support and interest. We will be adding more pages to this
part of the website early in the New Year.
