NATIONAL RESULTS

In order to calculate which birds were the early risers, we took your survey information and calculated the time difference between when you were first able to see your bird feeders (and hence the birds themselves) and the time at which each species was first noted visiting your feeding station. We did this for each of the species on the survey form, although we restricted the formal analysis to those species found at 5% or more of the participating gardens. This helped ensure that we reported on general patterns and not chance events. Using this approach we determined the follow order of arrival.
