WHICH IS BRITAIN'S EARLY BIRD

The results of the Shortest Day Survey show Britain's early bird to be....

the Blackbird!

Your results show the Blackbird to be the first bird to arrive at garden feeding stations, arriving on average some 13 minutes after the time at which you could first see your bird feeders. Interestingly, many participants reported Blackbirds to be up and about while it was still dark, their familiar calls being heard in the darkness. In fact, Blackbirds will often sing at night in the presence of artificial lights, a behaviour shared by two of our other top four early risers (Robin and Song Thrush).
