Big Garden Weigh-in

Woodpigeons, by Josie Latus

The Big Garden Weigh-in was run in 2012 and set out to examine the structure of garden bird communities and how they vary with location, garden size and local habitat.

Records were received from in excess of 4,000 participants and preliminary results were launched on Springwatch. The national average number of species recorded was 11.24 with average biomass generally lowest in southwest England, the West Midlands and the Welsh borders. More results can be found here.
