BTO - British Energy
Business Bird Challenge 2008

It isn’t only sites that attract large numbers of birds that are eligible to participate, the efforts made towards conservation and community involvement are equally important.

Are you proud of your relationship with the local community?

Businesses play an important role in local communities, creating jobs and often changing landscapes. Good relationships are vital and the Community category provides an opportunity to recognise the hard work of volunteers and promote environmental education.

Are your conservation efforts providing biodiversity benefits?

The Conservation category allows companies to showcase initiatives which attract birds and demonstrate dedication to conservation. Past projects have included planting of trees and hedgerows, sensitive grass cutting regimes and habitat creation from heathland to reed beds.

Does your site attract a diversity of birds?

The Birds category is always exciting for us. A site coordinator monitors birds using the site, counting species and noting first records. Sites with high species counts have often made huge efforts to attract birds, including the installation of nest boxes, feeding stations and habitat creation.

Then take up the Challenge!
