Status Summary
Pheasants have increased in abundance since 1980, although the CBC index indicates a sharp drop in the size of the population in the late 1990s. The BBS shows a large increase in Pheasant abundance in Wales, an area less well-covered by the CBC, during 2000. Numbers of this introduced gamebird are determined principally by releases for shooting (Marchant et al. 1990).
