Help on the Google map interface

The Google map interface allows you to tell us where you made your observations by simply clicking on a map.

  • When you click on the Goto Map button on the site registration form a new window will open with a Google map of Britain and Ireland.
  • You can navigate around by dragging the map, and zoom in by either using the slider bar on the left or by double-clicking your mouse on the map itself. Once you have zoomed in to your site, you can view the map as a satellite image or 'hybrid', allowing you to pinpoint your site location exactly.
  • Once you have found your site, you can select it by holding 'Shift' and clicking on the centre of your recording site. A grid reference will be selected and you just need to confirm this.
  • The map window will close and you will be back at the site registration form. The grid reference boxes on that form will have been completed automatically.
