Scarce Woodland Bird Survey
Background
The aim of this project is to improve our knowledge of the types
of habitat used by woodland birds in the breeding season. Relatively
little is currently known about the range of habitats used by many
of these species and by increasing our knowledge of what is needed
we hope to be able to contribute to efforts to reverse their declines
in ways such as producing recommendations for the management of
woodland habitats.
Full details of the project can be found here.
How to contribute
Survey Period: 1st March 2005 to 30th June 2005
As part of the project, we are collecting records of 8 key species
(Firecrest, Hawfinch, Lesser Redpoll, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker,
Redstart, Tree Pipit, Willow Tit and Wood Warbler) from ANY habitat
in which they occur between 1st March and 30th June. In order for
us to make us of your records of these species for the survey, we
would be very grateful if you could provide us with simple habitat
information, using the following categories:
1) Broad-leaved woodland
2) Coniferous woodland
3) Mixed woodland
4) Water-logged woodland
5) New plantation or regenerating woodland
6) Other scrub
7) Heath
8) Parkland
9) Garden
10) Hedgerow
11) Shelterbelt
12) Other (please specify).
Please also provide us with any additional information that might
be useful. This would include any sign of breeding activity by the
birds (such as singing or other indications of territory holding,
sexual behaviour etc.) and the area of the habitat patch the bird(s)
was/were present in.
Recording your sightings
If you are not already a BirdTrack recorder, register using the
link on the BirdTrack homepage ‘Register for BirdTrack’.

and set up your sites and records.
How to enter the additional information
To contribute, please just add as many of the points above that
you can to the species comment box on the casual form, or in the
comments box on the main species list form. Please help distinguish
the different points by adding a '#' between each point.
For example:
