Tawny Owl Strix aluco

Tawny Owl by GrayImages

To get a complete picture of where Tawny Owls live (and other nocturnal species) we need a dusk visit to every 10-km square in Britain and Ireland. Listen out for your local owls and why not visit local woods to listen for Woodcock, Nightjar and Grasshopper Warblers on warm spring evenings.

Note that the 2007-11 maps (below left) reflect only records submitted so far online . We will update these with records from paper forms at the end of each fieldwork season. Check back soon to see how the picture develops. And why not take part and help fill the gaps.
