Barn Owl Tyto alba

Barn Owl by Neil Calbrade

Barn Owls were once a regular sight over farmland and rough grazing in Britain. They are most active at dawn and dusk. Previous atlases have documented a decline in range across Britain and Ireland. Will the local conservation efforts have made a difference? Record your local Barn Owls and let's see what the distribution is like now.

Note that the 2007-11 maps (below left) reflect only records submitted so far online . We will update these with records from paper forms at the end of each fieldwork season. Check back soon to see how the picture develops. And why not take part and help fill the gaps.
