Sign up now for the 2008 Breeding Bird Survey!

Can you identify birds by sight and sound? Can you spare 4-5 hours to make two visits to a BBS square this year? The BTO/JNCC/RSPB Breeding Bird Survey tracks the populations of over 100 UK bird species, and we are always seeking new volunteers. Click here for more information about taking part. If you’d like to take on a BBS square, click here to register for BBS.

Record coverage in 2007!
Over 3,500 BBS squares were surveyed across the UK in 2007 – a great achievement, and we are very grateful to all our volunteers. The results are currently being analysed, and the 2007 report will be available later in the year.

BBS results for 2006 now available
The BBS annual report for 2006 contains trends for the period 1994-2006. Click here to download a copy.

BBS and the Atlas
Your BBS records will automatically be passed
to the Bird Atlas 2007-11 in the form of Roving Records. However, if you confirm breeding for a locally scarce species whilst carrying out the survey it would be worth reporting the record online at www.birdatlas.net, or on a Roving Record form available from BTO.

FREE bird call CD!
A CD of the songs and calls of over 70 British species is available free of charge to new BBS volunteers – just ask your Regional Organiser. Volunteers surveying upland squares will also receive a second CD of upland bird songs and calls.

BBS-Online
Online optionsOver half of the 2007 BBS results were submitted online, making data processing more efficient and accurate. It’s easy to input and edit your records, and the system allows you to view historical data for your square.
