Archive Records Appeal
For years, the BTO's archives were kept
in a cellar in Tring. Although storage in Thetford is dry, one fire would
still have destroyed a huge part of the nations' archive of bird information.
Thanks to a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generosity of
the BTO's supporters we have been able to scan the following records and
put them onto CD ROMS.
- Decades of Nest Record Cards
- Thousands of Moult Cards
- Huge piles of ringing schedules
- Information from special surveys organised by the Trust
- Historical information
Irreplaceable data sets have been safeguarded for future generations
The Migration Atlas
Work under the Archive Appeal has brought together all of the ringing
records generated since 1909, enabling us to map the movements of birds
to and from Britain and Ireland. With the support of ringers and BTO members,
we have been able to take this information one stage further, publishing
the Migration Atlas, an 884-page summary of the movements of
birds to, from and through Britain and Ireland.
