About the
British Trust for Ornithology
The BTO in Scotland, Wales and Ireland
Scotland, Wales
and Ireland support very significant components of the avifauna
of the British Isles and the BTO has always worked to make sure
its monitoring projects cover the whole area and offer maximum engagement
and satisfaction to birdwatchers anywhere in our islands, however
remote from Thetford. We are lucky to have volunteer liaison officers
in both Wales and Northern
Ireland who can provide more information about local BTO activities
there.
In 2000 the
BTO Scotland Office was
opened in Edinburgh. The office, now based at Stirling University,
is run by Chris Wernham with a team of eight permanent staff. They
are developing the BTO’s work north of the border and in particular
ensuring that its outputs reflect the needs of the devolved government
and its environmental monitoring and protection remit.
