in

We’re asking you to monitor your nest box and to send us details of the birds that used your box to allow us to gauge the breeding success of birds in green spaces.

Blue tit chicks

The Blue Tit is the most frequently recorded species under
Nest Box Challenge

Who can take part?

Anyone can take part as long as they have safe access to their nest box.

How to take part?

Follow these 3 simple steps to take part in the Nest Box Challenge.

  1. Register your nest box online with the Nest Box Challenge
  2. Log into the Nest Box Challenge website and follow the instructions to record the details of your nest box.
  3. Record; what species built the nest, where it is, what sort of habitat it’s in and the number of eggs and chicks at regular intervals throughout the breeding season.

When to take part?

Register your nest box as soon as you have put it up – it doesn’t matter if you don’t have any birds using it yet.

Can I get involved in another BTO survey?

If you have enjoyed taking part in the Nest Box Challenge, why not take part in our Nest Record Scheme where we will be asking you to submit records of the nests that you find in the natural environment.
